What: Africa Bridge Harvest Gala

Where: Nelson Farms on Sauvie Island (private farm, not open to the public)

A traditional way to celebrate the harvest in Tanzania is with an Ngoma - after-harvest festival. An Ngoma highlights the bounties of the earth through African dancing and drumming. Join us on Sauvie Island for an African-infused dinner by Charles Stilwell of Devil's Food Catering, dancing and drumming performances to celebrate Africa Bridge's success in empowering Tanzanian communities through microloans to create sustainable farming practices that allow them to care and educate their children.

Performance | Obo Addy Drummers and Dancers

Obo AddyObo Addy, one of the key originators of the seminal musical movement now known as "Worldbeat," is a prominent member of the first generation of African musicians to bring their traditional and popular music to Europe and America. An original and respected composer whose music reaches far beyond the boundaries of his land of birth, Addy has a twenty-year presence on the international performing arts scene and has become known for his ability to celebrate past traditions while expanding to embrace new ideas and foreign influences through his music and community outreach work as director of Homowo African Arts and Cultures.

Performance | Sebe Kan

Sebe Kan (meaning Serious Sound) was formed in 2004, a West African drum and dance performance group consisting of eleven members. Sebe Kan has performed in many different festivals and multi-cultural events all over Oregon and Washington. Over the past five years, Sebe Kan has performed and taught in more than 70 schools, including universities and artistic camps throughout the Northwest, and continues to share with students and audiences their passion and enthusiasm for the traditional drum and dance cultures of Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Mali.

Performance | Amani Marimba Band

The Amani Marimba Band members are teens from Athey Creek Middle School in West Linn. Amani has raised money to build a classroom in their sister village Ngumbulu.

Speaker | Barry Childs/Founder, Africa Bridge

Barry Childs Between 2000 and 2001, Barry Childs conducted over 70 interviews with Africans: children, people living with HIV/AIDS, health care workers, government officials, journalists, educators, consultants, non-governmental organizations, and members of the business community to assess the needs of African leaders in fighting HIV/AIDS.

Speaker | Lisa MacCallum/Managing Director, The Nike Foundation

Lisa MacCallumLisa MacCallum is the Managing Director and General Manager of the Nike Foundation, a nonprofit organization supported by NIKE, Inc. that is dedicated to investing in adolescent girls as the most powerful force for change in the developing world. Lisa oversees all functions of the Foundation including its investments and portfolio, accounting and finance, strategic planning and operations, and branding and communications. In addition, she ensures that all aspects of the organization are coordinated and deliver against the Foundation’s mission to achieve maximum impact. She brings more than 15 years of business management experience to the Foundation.

Emcee | Inessa/DJ, KINK FM

InessaA 24 year veteran behind the microphone, Inessa began her career in theatre/arts in New York City. Inessa’s radio career encompasses many years at top quality heritage Portland radio stations. KGON, KBBT, Q105 and even a short stint on KFAN sports station to name a few. Inessa enjoyed 7 years as KINK’s mid-day host and cultural ambassador to the station. Inessa is known for in depth reporting on Portland area arts and is the KINK authority on Portland arts and culture with a very personal relationship with KINK female listeners.

*Before The Wind oil painting by Doug Eally, Pacific Northwest ($1,200 value)

Auctioneer | Kelly Russell, CAI, BAS, CES

Kelly RussellKelly Russell is professional auctioneer who has specialized in the benefit auction industry since 2004. Kelly is an energetic performer who is comfortable in front of audiences of all sizes and enjoys interacting with bidders. Her services include consulting committees through the auction method to create successful events. Kelly also works as an independent contractor for Estate, Antique & Collectible, and Commercial Auctions. Kelly is currently a member of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA), the National Auctioneers Foundation (NAF), serves as Vice President for the Oregon Auctioneers Association (OAA), has completed the designations of Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS), Certified Estate Specialist (CES), and the national designation from the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI).
